As Permanent Representative of Palau to the United Nations, I warmly welcome you to our Website.
The site presents Palau’s positions on important UN-related issues and offers information on Palau’s activities in the UN and its agencies. It contains Palau’s statements at the General Assembly, in committee meetings, and in other venues. The site details important initiatives relating to Palau’s bilateral partners, and highlights the establishment of diplomatic relations with new, friendly countries around the world.
 Palau is proud to be a member of the Community of Nations. After four successive colonial administrations – Spain, Germany, Japan and the United States – it finally emerged into nationhood in 1994. It is unique in having been the last country in the world to emerge into full sovereignty from the Trusteeship System of the United Nations. In April of 2004 Palau finally completed its long passage to nationhood by seating its first Permanent Representative to the world’s only universal deliberative body, the United Nations.
President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. has set out the priorities of this young Republic very clearly in his recently published Statement of Purpose, and that statement guides Palau’s Mission to the UN. It states that:
| “. . . Palau must establish a clear framework to become self-sufficient in order for the People of Palau to gain the benefits of a free and democratic society that had so long been denied to them.” |
 Thus, the Palau Mission’s principal task is to help a vulnerable island state create a sustainable economy, preserve its unequaled environment, and allow future generations to learn, live, and work in their homeland. The Mission, guided by these objectives, will welcome the friendship and support of the nations of the world in pursuing these goals, while strengthening Palau’s capacity to do its part in achieving the UN’s critical agenda of securing peace and prosperity for every citizen of the globe.
The Website is designed to not only inform, but to issue a call to action to all Palauans and all friends of Palau, wherever situated, to lend a hand. With this in mind, a database feature is provided for all who wish to come forward, learn more and play a role. I wish you a pleasant experience on this Website, and invite you to interact.
